Tricia Souers

Life as we knew it ended on July 3, 1998. Our first child, Caleb Joseph Souers, was born still at 22 weeks gestation due to Toxemia. For many months, my husband Tim and I wandered through this new life in darkness, wondering if we could ever find happiness again. Through friends, we discovered Share and went to the monthly support group meeting. It was as though a door had been thrown open, letting pure sunlight in. Finally, we had found a place where we could speak openly of Caleb, and people truly understood what we were going through. Over time, we cried less and laughed more with our new friends at Share, and began to volunteer our time whenever we could at events and services.

In June of 2000, had an early pregnancy loss. Again, Share was there for us. When we were experiencing our third pregnancy, the Share subsequent choices group was invaluable to us, helping us through with love and support. On March 22, 2001, Caitlin Elizabeth Souers was born healthy; a true miracle baby. She is the sunshine of our lives; I truly never thought I would ever feel the joy that I do, though it is often tempered with bitersweet thoughts and memories of Caleb, who would now be six. I again miscarried in January, 2005--another loss to face, with the support and compassion of Share. I don’t know what I would have done without them.

My background in Art and Graphic Design has proved to be very helpful for many Share events, and Tim and I have been trained and serve as Share Companions, helping families who are experiencing the death of a baby. I also serve on the Awareness and PR Committee, and am a licensed and certified Sign Language Interpreter at some Share events as well.

It is my honor to volunteer for Share, and I am proud to do things in Caleb’s and our little ones’ memories to try and make the world a more compassionate place.
