Share Ambassadors

Gary & Melissa Wellman

During a fairly "normal" pregnancy, Gary and Melissa Wellman were abruptly introduced to something never considered. A simple ultrasound indicated the worst. Their son, Garrett Michael Wellman, had died in utero about half way through the pregnancy with no apparent cause. The hours following this realization brought a wide range of emotions: confusion, anger, sadness, fear.

Their doctor had suggested contacting an organization called Share. She told Gary and Melissa how they help parents and family who experience a loss such as this. The physician discussed what would take place over the next couple days. After a long night of crying, talking, reflecting and praying, Gary and Melissa went to the hospital to deliver Garrett. To assist them in this journey was an angel sent from heaven. Cathi Lammert, executive director of Share and all around soul healer, walked them through what was the most difficult time in their lives. She mentioned possibilities, alternatives, and considerations for a variety of topics. It was truly a blessing that she was there when they felt most vulnerable. Over the next couple days, Cathi laid the groundwork of mending their broken hearts.

After a period of time, Gary and Melissa decided to attend their first Share meeting. (Actually, Melissa had to drag Gary to the first meeting.) Although, after he felt the healing power of sharing these still unknown emotions with those who have unwillingly traveled the same path, Gary began to unload everything that transpired and how he felt. It was here that both Gary and Melissa witnessed the power of Share and the healing they can perform.

Since that time, Gary and Melissa have given back to the organization that provided them with so much at a time when they most needed it. They have assisted with different events and participated on a variety of committees for various Share functions (annual walk, golf, brick laying, candle light vigil, parent panels). They are Share companions; trained to assist parents who have experienced their own loss. Melissa is on the Angel Ball committee, and Gary sits on the Share Development Committee. Recently, they chaired a Trivia Night (with two other Share companions), which raised $9,000 for Share. Together, they do what they can to ensure Share can assist other parents through difficult times. It is in Garrett’s memory that Gary and Melissa Wellman volunteer their time for this most special organization.
